New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – The Ministry of Education has confirmed that there has been no reduction in University Grants Commission (UGC) funding to Delhi University over the past five years. This information was provided in a written response by Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

Majumdar explained that the Ministry allocates a block grant to the UGC under the scheme "Grants to Central Universities," which then distributes funds to various central universities, including Delhi University, based on their requirements and past utilization of funds.

As per the data shared by the minister, the grants received by Delhi University have shown a consistent increase:
  • 2023-24: ₹955 crore
  • 2022-23: ₹812 crore
  • 2021-22: ₹670 crore
  • 2020-21: ₹628 crore
  • 2019-20: ₹607 crore
Citing these figures, Majumdar stated, "It is evident that there is no decline in grants released to the University of Delhi."

The clarification comes amid concerns regarding funding for higher education institutions, reinforcing that the financial support for Delhi University has remained stable and has grown over the years.
