Karnataka Government Rejects Proposal for 10–15% Fee Increase

Bengaluru, May 17—In a significant relief for aspiring medical and dental students, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil announced that the fee structure for these courses will not increase in the upcoming academic year.

Despite demands from private medical and dental colleges for a 10 to 15 percent hike in fees, the state government has decided to maintain the current levels. According to a statement released by his office, the announcement was made following a meeting between the minister and representatives of private college management.

Last Year's Hike Considered Adequate

Minister Patil highlighted that a 10 percent fee hike had already been implemented last year and reiterated that this increase is sufficient. "The government has decided that no further hike will be permitted this year," he stated, firmly shutting down the latest request from private institutions.

Agreement to Be Formalised

The minister added that an agreement reflecting this decision will soon be signed with all concerned parties to ensure clarity and enforcement.

This move by the Karnataka government aims to ease the financial burden on students and parents, particularly when higher education's affordability remains a critical concern.
