Kochi, Feb 27: Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, V D Satheesan, has dismissed speculation regarding a change in leadership within the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). Addressing reporters in Kochi, he asserted that no discussions were taking place within the party about replacing KPCC president K Sudhakaran and that there were no internal disagreements.
Satheesan clarified that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) recently called Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) leaders from states like Kerala, Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam to Delhi for discussions on the roadmap for the 2026 assembly elections. He criticized the media for misinterpreting this as internal discord within the KPCC.
"There are no issues among us. The Congress high command is responsible for making leadership decisions at the right time, and currently, there are no discussions about any change here or in Delhi," he said.
His remarks follow Congress Working Committee member Shashi Tharoor’s strong endorsement of Sudhakaran’s leadership. Tharoor's statement came after Sudhakaran himself had earlier said that any decision on restructuring the party or changing the KPCC leadership rested with the high command.
The clarification from Satheesan aims to end speculations surrounding the KPCC leadership amid discussions on the party’s electoral strategy for 2026.
