New Delhi, Feb 27 – Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma has announced an investigation into why CCTV cameras were not installed in eight constituencies represented by BJP MLAs during the previous AAP government’s tenure.

Addressing the Delhi Assembly on Thursday, Verma assured that these constituencies would now receive CCTV cameras on priority. In the last assembly, BJP held eight seats, while AAP secured 62 seats.

Raising the issue in the House, Vishwas Nagar BJP MLA OP Sharma claimed that not a single CCTV camera had been installed in his constituency under the previous AAP-led administration. He demanded a Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) probe into the matter. Other BJP MLAs also alleged "stepmotherly" treatment by the former government.

Laxmi Nagar MLA Abhay Verma highlighted that BJP MLAs had even approached the Delhi High Court regarding the issue. Despite a court order and a recommendation from the Chief Secretary, no action was taken, he said.

Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta stated that under the AAP government’s CCTV project, 2,000 cameras were to be installed in each of Delhi’s 70 constituencies. However, the eight BJP-held constituencies were left out, despite the government purchasing 1.40 lakh cameras for the project.

Responding to the concerns, Minister Parvesh Verma affirmed that a thorough probe would be conducted, and officers responsible would face action if found guilty. He also assured that CCTV cameras would now be installed in all eight constituencies that were previously excluded.
