Kochi, Feb 2 (PTI) – The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Sunday clarified that it has not demanded the chief minister's post if the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) comes to power in Kerala.
Speaking to reporters, IUML General Secretary PMA Salam emphasized that all decisions within the UDF are taken collectively. However, he noted that if all coalition partners insist on an IUML leader for the position, the party would not reject the proposal outright.
"The IUML has not made any such demand. We have not even considered raising the issue," Salam stated, dismissing speculations about the party's aspirations for the top post.
He further remarked that discussions over the UDF’s potential chief ministerial candidate reflect the growing confidence of the people in the opposition alliance.
Salam's statement comes in response to recent reports suggesting that IUML supremo Sadique Ali Shihab Thangal had indicated the party's willingness to take up the role if the Congress agreed.
The clarification aims to put an end to the speculation surrounding IUML's political stance as the state gears up for the next electoral battle.
