Mumbai, Feb 2 (PTI) – India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, was full of praise for young Abhishek Sharma after his sensational 135 off just 54 balls powered India to a commanding 150-run victory over England. The emphatic win sealed the T20I series 4-1 in India's favor.

Speaking after the match, Gambhir lauded Sharma’s innings as one of the finest he has ever witnessed in T20 cricket.

"I haven't seen a better T20 hundred than this," Gambhir told the host broadcaster. "To score a century like that against bowlers consistently clocking 140-150 kph is extraordinary."

A New Era of Fearless Cricket

Emphasizing India’s aggressive approach, Gambhir asserted that the team will continue playing an attacking brand of cricket.

"We are going to keep playing fearless cricket. Players like Abhishek Sharma will always have our backing. We must be patient with these young players, and most of them believe in our ideology," he added.

The remarks come amidst speculation about unrest in the Indian dressing room following their disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. However, Gambhir dismissed such concerns, stating that victories naturally resolve internal challenges.

"These players have played a lot of cricket together. When results start going in your favor, everything falls into place. Our team knows what it means to represent 140-150 crore Indians."

India to Continue Aggressive Strategy in ODIs

With the ODI series against England set to begin in Nagpur on February 6, Gambhir hinted that India will maintain its fearless approach.

"England is a high-quality side, but we don’t want to play with the fear of losing. Our aim is to push for totals of 250-260 in T20Is, and sometimes, we might get bowled out for 120. But we are on the right track," he stated.

In ODIs, India is keen on entertaining the crowd with an equally attacking strategy. "We want to play as aggressively as possible and keep the fans entertained."

Harshit Rana’s Concussion Controversy Addressed

The Indian coach also took a light-hearted jab at the controversy surrounding Harshit Rana’s substitution for Shivam Dube in the previous match in Pune. When asked about the incident, Gambhir simply remarked, "He (Dube) probably bowled four overs today," dismissing any lingering concerns.

With an emphatic T20I series win under their belt, India now shifts focus to the ODI leg, looking to extend their dominance over England with an aggressive, fearless brand of cricket.
