Idukki (Kerala), Feb 3 (PTI) – In a chilling incident, a notorious gangster and murder suspect was allegedly killed by a rival gang, with his mutilated body found dumped in a teakwood plantation in Moolamattom, Idukki, police said on Monday.
The victim, identified as Sajan Samuel (47) from Melukavu in Kottayam district, had a criminal record, including involvement in a murder case. His body, wrapped in a sack, was discovered in the plantation under Kanjar police station limits on Sunday. In a gruesome twist, one of his severed hands was recovered a day later, police confirmed.
Authorities suspect the murder took place on January 30 within the Melukavu police station limits in Kottayam district. The body was then transported and abandoned in the neighboring Idukki district.
The crime came to light after an auto-rickshaw driver unwittingly transported the body from Erumapra in Melukavu, believing it to be spoiled pork meat meant for disposal. Suspicious of the contents, he informed his father, who then alerted the Kanjar police station. This led to an immediate search operation, ultimately resulting in the discovery of Samuel’s remains.
Following swift action, police arrested seven members of a criminal gang in connection with the murder. Investigators believe the rival gang not only killed Samuel but also dismembered his body before packing it in a sack to mislead authorities.
As the crime occurred in Melukavu, the case will now be transferred to the local police there for further investigation. Authorities are continuing their probe to uncover further details behind the gang rivalry and ensure justice is served.
