Trials to Finalise Indian Team for ISSF World Cups, Asian Championships, and Youth Games

New Delhi, May 15 – The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has officially announced the dates for the upcoming national selection trials 2 and 3 for shotgun events—trap and skeet. The trials will be conducted in New Delhi and Bhopal from May 21 to June 8, as part of the process to finalize India's squad for a busy international shooting calendar this year.

Trial Venues and Dates

Selection Trial 2 will occur at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi from May 21 to 26. The schedule includes:
  • Skeet qualifications on May 21
  • Skeet finals on May 23
  • Trap events from May 24 to 26
Selection Trial 3 will be hosted by the Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy in Bhopal from June 1 to 8, featuring:
  • Skeet competitions from June 1 to 4
  • Trap events from June 5 to 8
  • Each discipline's final will be held on the concluding day of the respective events.

Key International Competitions Ahead

These trials are crucial for assembling the Indian shotgun squad for several major tournaments, including:
  • Two ISSF World Cups (Italy and Greece)
  • The 16th Asian Championships in Kazakhstan
  • The ISSF Junior World Cup is to be held in India this September
  • The 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain this October

Provisions for Junior Shooters

The NRAI clarified that junior athletes competing in the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, which coincides with Selection Trial 2, will still have their scores considered for national team selection. These participants will not be penalized with a zero score; no separate selection trial will be held for junior shotgun shooters.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the trials, shooters must have achieved the following minimum scores in either the 67th National Shooting Championship Competitions (NSCC) or the 3rd Digvijay Singh Memorial Shooting Championship:
  • Men's Trap and Skeet: 110 (Seniors), 100 (Juniors)
  • Women's Trap and Skeet: 95 (Seniors), 90 (Juniors)

In addition, regardless of their scores, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awardees are granted direct eligibility to participate in the trials.
The trials are expected to witness intense competition as India looks to send its best shooters to represent the country in a series of high-profile global events later this year.
