New Delhi, May 12 – The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Monday conducted a nationwide 'Shakti March' to pay tribute to the leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and to express solidarity with the Indian armed forces.

The demonstration came just two days after India and Pakistan reached a mutual understanding to halt all forms of firing and military action, following a period of heightened hostilities along the border.

According to an official NSUI statement, the event aimed to reaffirm commitment to India's sovereignty and call for decisive action against cross-border terrorism. The march was led by NSUI national president Varun Choudhary and witnessed strong participation from students and youth across the country.

Addressing the gathering, Choudhary said, "India today needs leadership with the resolve and clarity of Smt. Indira Gandhi, who stood firm against foreign pressure and gave a historic response to Pakistan in 1971."

He added, "She never compromised on national security. As Pakistan continues to sponsor terrorism, the government must respond with strength and decisiveness."

Emphasizing India’s autonomy in strategic decision-making, Choudhary said, "Our decisions must be guided by national interest, not by the influence or mediation of any foreign power. On issues of national security and our borders, there can be no compromise."

The NSUI stated that through the ‘Shakti March’, it was reaffirming its commitment to national unity and pledging to uphold the legacy of Indira Gandhi’s bold leadership in confronting threats to India's sovereignty.
