Udupi, Karnataka, May 10 — Authorities in Karnataka's Udupi district are investigating a disturbing incident involving inflammatory and obscene graffiti found on the bathroom wall of a reputed engineering college’s women’s hostel in Nitte, Karkala taluk. The graffiti, written in English, was discovered on the evening of May 7 and appeared to be aimed at inciting communal disharmony, police confirmed.Graffiti Aimed at Provoking Religious Tensions
The provocative slogans were reported by the hostel manager to local law enforcement. According to officials, the content of the graffiti was not only vulgar but also targeted specific religious communities, raising concerns over attempts to disrupt communal harmony within the campus environment.In response, the Karkala Rural Police registered a case under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This section pertains to the circulation of false information or alarming content intended to create or promote enmity or ill will between different groups.
Investigation Underway; CCTV Footage Reviewed
Udupi Superintendent of Police Arun K confirmed that investigations are ongoing. “A case has been registered, and we are in the process of identifying those responsible,” he said.Police teams are analyzing CCTV footage from the hostel premises and have begun questioning students. Initial findings hint at the possible involvement of a female student, although no suspects have been formally named.
