Jajpur, Feb 27 – A Class 10 student from Odisha’s Jajpur district gave birth to a baby girl at a government hospital, officials confirmed on Thursday. The young mother, who was in the midst of her matriculation examinations, was rushed to the Bari hospital on Wednesday after experiencing severe abdominal pain at home.
According to Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) A.K. Sharma, the student delivered the baby at Bari Hospital before being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jajpur for further medical care. Due to health complications, the newborn was admitted to the pediatric ICU.
Jajpur District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Niranjan Kar stated that the student had already appeared for two subjects in the ongoing matriculation exams and was scheduled to write her mathematics paper on Thursday. Authorities are in the process of verifying her age to determine if she is a minor.
This incident follows a similar case earlier in the week, where another Class 10 student from Chitrakonda, Malkangiri district, gave birth in a government-run residential girls’ high school hostel while also appearing for her board exams.
Authorities are likely to investigate the circumstances surrounding both cases, with a focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of underage mothers and their newborns.
