Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Tuesday an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of two government job aspirants who tragically lost their lives during physical fitness tests conducted by the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC).

The compensation amount will be provided through the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF), according to an official government statement.

The deceased aspirants were identified as Byomakesh Nayak, a resident of Keonjhar district, and Prabin Kumar Panda from Rourkela in Sundargarh district. Both candidates were taking part in physical assessments required for recruitment into various state government positions, including forest guards, foresters, and livestock inspectors.

Prabin Kumar Panda collapsed during a mandatory 25-kilometer endurance run between Bhabanipur and Baragada. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead shortly afterward.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed profound grief over the untimely deaths of the two young aspirants, emphasizing the state's commitment to supporting the families during this difficult time.

The OSSC has been conducting rigorous physical fitness examinations as part of its recruitment process for frontline government positions such as forest guards and livestock inspectors.

The tragic incidents have drawn attention to the intensity of physical assessments and raised concerns about safety measures for candidates undergoing strenuous physical tests.
