Bhubaneswar, Feb 3 (PTI): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday sanctioned ₹5 lakh for the medical treatment of a girl suffering from a rare genetic disorder and also assured her family a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

The financial aid and housing assistance were granted immediately during a grievance hearing held in Bhubaneswar. The CM directed the district collector of Boudh to release ₹5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the treatment of Pratyusha Giri, who is battling xeroderma pigmentosum, a genetic condition that causes extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet light.

“We have sanctioned ₹5 lakh on the spot and instructed the district collector to ensure that the family receives a PMAY house,” Majhi told reporters.

Pratyusha was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack last month, where she received free treatment. However, as her condition requires continuous medical care, her family is struggling to bear the expenses, prompting the chief minister’s intervention.

Additionally, Majhi instructed officials to arrange treatment for a 12-year-old boy from Saintala in Bolangir district, who is also in need of medical assistance.

Updating on the progress of the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell (CMGC), Majhi revealed that out of the 8,031 petitions received so far, 81% of cases have been resolved. He encouraged citizens to approach the CMGC if they face injustice at the district level.

Odisha Government’s Proactive Approach to Citizen Welfare

The Odisha government continues to prioritize healthcare and social welfare, with Majhi’s proactive measures reflecting the administration’s commitment to addressing urgent grievances.
