Odisha Police inspector suspended for illicit relation with home guard

Bhubaneswar, Feb 26: The Odisha Police suspended an inspector on Wednesday following allegations that he deceived a female home guard by engaging in a physical relationship with the promise of marriage, only to later refuse, officials confirmed.

The accused inspector, who was later discovered to be already married, was posted in the same police station in Jagatsinghpur district as the complainant. After the female home guard lodged a police complaint on Monday, authorities detained him for further investigation.

Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania issued an order stating that the complaint highlighted “gross misconduct and abuse of official position,” prompting the initiation of a disciplinary proceeding.

"In the interest of public service and to ensure fairness in the inquiry, the inspector has been placed under suspension with immediate effect," the order stated. During the suspension period, he will remain under the disciplinary control of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Central Range, Cuttack.

Authorities have assured a thorough investigation into the matter to uphold integrity and accountability within the police force.
