Massive Wealth Unearthed in Multi-District Raids; Investigation Continues
Odisha Vigilance officials on Friday arrested senior transport officer Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, following the recovery of disproportionate assets, including multiple multi-storey buildings, flats, land plots, and substantial cash and gold, during extensive raids conducted over two days.
Acting on credible intelligence, vigilance sleuths initiated simultaneous searches across nine locations in the districts of Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, and Cuttack on Thursday. These raids extended into the early hours of Friday morning, ultimately leading to Mohanty’s arrest, as confirmed by a senior official.
From Junior Inspector to Joint Commissioner
Pradeep Kumar Mohanty began his career as a Junior Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) in 1990. Currently, he holds the post of Joint Commissioner (Road Safety) at the State Transport Authority (STA).
Assets Worth Crores Discovered During Vigilance Operation
During the operation, officials uncovered significant assets allegedly belonging to Mohanty. These include:
- Three multi-storey buildings located in Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Khurda.
- Two benami flats situated in Puri.
- A sprawling farmhouse covering 14.78 acres in Nayagarh district.
- Eleven high-value land plots in prime locations across Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Ranapur, and Nayagarh.
- Agricultural land exceeding 11 acres.
In addition to real estate holdings, vigilance officials also seized:
- 2.1 kg of gold biscuits and ornaments
- ₹1 crore allegedly paid toward the purchase of a luxury flat in Bhubaneswar
- Bank deposits totaling ₹17 lakh
- Two high-value four-wheelers
- Cash amounting to ₹17.55 lakh
Mohanty Fails to Explain Source of Wealth; Case Registered
Following the seizures, the anti-corruption wing registered a case against Mohanty at the Vigilance Police Station in Bhubaneswar. The officer was taken into custody after failing to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the source of his extensive wealth, a vigilance official confirmed.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of Mohanty's allegedly disproportionate assets.
