Mumbai, Feb 4 (PTI) – A 26-year-old man lost his life, and another sustained injuries after a violent attack following a dispute over a seat on the Chennai-Jodhpur Express at Nandurbar railway station in Maharashtra, police reported on Tuesday.
According to officials, one person has been arrested, and a minor has been detained in connection with the attack, which occurred on Sunday evening.
The victims, identified as Sumer Singh and 40-year-old Parbat Parihar, had boarded the train from Chennai and were en route to their hometown in Jodhpur. Trouble started when the duo got into an argument with a fellow passenger over seating arrangements upon reaching Bhusawal station. The situation escalated when the passenger allegedly called his friends to Nandurbar station to confront them.
As the train reached Nandurbar, the assailants launched a brutal assault on Singh and Parihar using sharp weapons, causing serious injuries, an official stated. Although railway staff responded to the incident, the attackers managed to flee before they could be apprehended.
Both injured men were rushed to the district hospital, where Singh succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Monday. Authorities have registered a case, and an investigation is underway to trace and apprehend the remaining attackers.
