New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday asserted that India’s stature on global platforms has risen significantly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, contrasting it with the past when the country was not taken seriously.
Speaking at a roadshow in Chattarpur, Singh sought support for BJP candidate Kartar Singh Tanwar on the final day of campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections. He accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of misleading the public and claimed that only the BJP could accelerate Delhi’s development.
"Earlier, India's voice was not given importance on global platforms. But today, under PM Modi’s leadership, the world listens to India carefully. In 2014, India was the 11th largest economy; today, it stands at the fifth position and will soon reach the third spot," Singh stated.
He criticized the AAP government, alleging that while the country is progressing under Modi’s governance, Delhi remains stagnant due to AAP’s inefficiency. Singh accused the Arvind Kejriwal-led government of deceiving the people and failing to fulfill its promises.
Confident of the BJP securing a two-thirds majority, Singh declared, “The people of Delhi have now realized the truth. The actual development of Delhi will take place only when BJP comes to power.”
He emphasized that Delhi must grow in tandem with the nation and accused AAP of neglecting key issues such as poor road conditions, water contamination, and the persistence of slums.
Singh later addressed another roadshow in Moti Nagar, campaigning for BJP candidate Harish Khurana, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana.
The Delhi Assembly elections for 70 seats are scheduled for February 5, with counting set for February 8. As the campaign period ended at 6 PM on Monday, major political parties held roadshows, rallies, and public meetings in a final attempt to influence voters. The mandatory silence period is now in effect until polling begins at 7 AM on Wednesday.
