The Ministry of Minority Affairs organized an Orientation-cum-Training Programme for Haj pilgrims for the 2026 Haj in New Delhi today. Minister of State for Minority Affairs, George Kurian, inaugurated the event. This marked the beginning of preparations for the 2026 Haj, during which approximately 1.75 lakh Indian pilgrims will undertake the pilgrimage.
The deputationists will be deployed in Saudi Arabia for a period of two and a half months, under the supervision of the Indian Consulate General, to provide essential administrative and medical support to the pilgrims.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kurian said that managing the Haj is one of the largest and most complex logistical operations undertaken by India abroad. He emphasized that the deputationists are entrusted with the responsibility of serving approximately 1.75 lakh pilgrims and represent India in Saudi Arabia. He highlighted key welfare measures and reforms introduced in recent years, including special facilitation for elderly pilgrims with provisions for companions, and enhanced arrangements for women pilgrims traveling without a male guardian.
The training programme reflects the Ministry of Minority Affairs' continued commitment to strengthening preparedness, enhancing coordination among stakeholders, and ensuring a seamless Haj experience for Indian pilgrims in 2026.
