Paljor Stadium Hosts Grand Cultural Display Celebrating Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee
Gangtok, May 17 — In a vibrant display of culture and unity, over 1,100 dancers took to the grounds of Paljor Stadium in Gangtok on Friday to mark the 50th anniversary of Sikkim's Statehood Day with a massive Nepali folk dance performance.Students from various schools and universities across the state, all trained by the Tapashree Dance Academy, performed a synchronized routine on the theme Asthitva to the song of noted Nepali artist Naren Gurung. The academy’s founder, Komal Gurung, announced that the performance has been officially recorded in the International Book of Records, with judges from the organisation present to witness the event.
"This is a celebration of dance, art, and culture, and we are extremely proud to have achieved this record," said Gurung, expressing pride in the academy and the student performers.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang praised the achievement, highlighting its cultural significance. "This remarkable achievement showcases our rich cultural legacy and collective pride. My heartiest appreciation to the organisers, dancers, and everyone involved in making this historic event a success. You have made Sikkim proud," he stated.
Earlier in the day, the Golden Jubilee celebrations began with a Tiranga rally led by Chief Minister Tamang from MG Marg to Paljor Stadium. Thousands of citizens from all six districts of Sikkim participated in the rally and gathered at the stadium to witness the cultural festivities.
Governor Om Prakash Mathur also joined in commemorating the occasion, congratulating the people of Sikkim on the milestone.
