Over Rs 10 Lakh Stolen from Axis Bank ATM in Gurugram Without Damage; Hack Suspected.webp

Gurugram, May 11 — In a high-tech heist that left no trace of physical damage, thieves stole over Rs 10 lakh from an Axis Bank ATM on the Delhi-Jaipur highway last month, police confirmed on Sunday.

According to the authorities, the theft occurred on the night of April 30 at an ATM located near Rico Auto Industries. The machine, maintained by Hitachi Payment Services, was found intact externally, but its internal components were compromised, raising suspicions of a security system hack.

Gaurav Kumar Baisla, an employee of Hitachi Payment Services, lodged the complaint stating that the intruders made away with cash exceeding Rs 10 lakh along with the booth’s critical electronic components — including the digital video recorder (DVR), hard disk, PC core, battery, and the ATM’s chest lock.

Police suspect the perpetrators deliberately disabled the video recording system before executing the theft. “There was no external tampering, suggesting a possible hacking of the ATM's internal systems,” said Sunil Kumar, Station House Officer of Sadar Police Station.

A case was registered on Saturday, and technical experts have been roped in to assist the investigation. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the culprits.

The investigation is ongoing as police seek to uncover the exact method used in this seemingly sophisticated crime.
