Pak Army chief expresses serious concern over use of Afghan soil by TTP militants

Islamabad, February 4 (PTI) – Pakistan's Army Chief, General Asim Munir, has expressed deep concern over the growing use of Afghan territory by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants for launching terrorist attacks against Pakistan. He called on Afghanistan’s Taliban-led interim government to take definitive and concrete actions to curb the militant group’s activities.

General Munir made the statement during the 267th Corps Commanders' Conference, held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. The meeting, attended by senior military leaders, issued a stern warning regarding the continued exploitation of Afghan soil by the TTP, referring to them as "Fitna Al Khawarij," a term historically used to describe those who deviated from mainstream Islam in the 7th century.

The conference highlighted the urgent need for Afghanistan to address this cross-border militant threat, urging Kabul to take meaningful steps to prevent the TTP from operating freely within its borders.

Focus on Balochistan and Regional Security

In addition to the growing terrorism threat, the army leaders discussed the importance of fostering people-centric socio-economic development initiatives in Pakistan's Balochistan province. The commanders emphasized the need to counter foreign-driven narratives aimed at excluding and radicalizing Baloch youth. The conference resolutely affirmed that any attempt to disrupt peace in Balochistan would be met with swift resistance, backed by the full support of the province's people.

“We will not allow anyone to undermine the peace and stability of Balochistan,” the army’s statement declared, underscoring that foreign-sponsored proxies seeking to mislead and radicalize the province’s youth would be decisively defeated.

Tensions with Afghanistan and Regional Security

As terror attacks continue to rise in Pakistan, Islamabad has increasingly blamed the Afghan government for its failure to act against the TTP, straining relations between the two countries. The issue of militancy in Afghanistan remains a significant point of contention in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.

The conference also included a comprehensive review of both internal and regional security dynamics. The situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary, which separates Pakistan and India, was assessed in detail. In this context, the forum condemned recent statements made by Indian military officials, describing them as "irresponsible and detrimental to regional stability."

General Munir reiterated Pakistan’s preparedness to defend its sovereignty. “Any misadventure against Pakistan will be met with a full and resolute response,” he asserted, emphasizing that the Pakistan Army stands ready to defend the country’s territorial integrity at all costs.

Continued Support for Kashmiris

The conference also voiced strong condemnation of the alleged human rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir. It reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Kashmir, calling for international attention to the ongoing situation in the disputed region.

This latest meeting reflects the military’s ongoing commitment to securing Pakistan’s borders and countering the multifaceted security challenges it faces, both from within and beyond its borders.
