Lahore, May 10 – In a dramatic escalation of tensions, Pakistan claimed early Saturday that three of its key airbases were targeted by missiles and drones allegedly launched by India.
Addressing a sudden press conference in Islamabad around 4 a.m., Pakistan military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry stated that the Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, Murid Airbase in Chakwal, and Rafiqui Airbase in Shorkot (Jhang district) were the intended targets.
Chaudhry alleged that India used air-to-surface missiles launched by fighter jets and termed the incident a “sinister act of India pushing the region into lethal war.”“But all assets of the Air Force remain safe,” he said, asserting that Pakistan’s air defence systems intercepted several of the missiles.
He warned, “Pakistan will respond to this aggression. India should wait for our response.”
The press briefing was abruptly concluded with no questions taken from the media.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations have been simmering following a recent uptick in hostilities along the border. This latest development is likely to further inflame the already volatile situation in the region.
