Pakistan Army Violates Ceasefire with Intrusion and Firing in Poonch, J&K

Indian Army Responds to LoC Breach in Krishna Ghati Sector

Jammu, April 2, 2025 — Tensions flared along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district after the Pakistan Army intruded into Indian territory and violated the ceasefire agreement by opening unprovoked fire. The incident occurred around 1:10 PM on Tuesday in the Krishna Ghati Sector, according to a statement from the Indian Army.

Defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal confirmed the breach, stating,
"On 01 April 2025, a mine blast occurred in Krishna Ghati Sector due to Pakistan Army intrusion across the LoC. This was followed by unprovoked firing and ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army."

The Indian Army responded promptly with what was described as a "controlled and calibrated" retaliation. Though the Army did not officially confirm any casualties on the Pakistani side, sources revealed that five Pakistani soldiers were injured during the exchange, which followed the explosion.

Lt Col Bartwal added that the situation is under control and being closely monitored, emphasizing the Indian Army’s commitment to peace.
"The Indian Army reiterates the importance of upholding the tenets of the Director Generals Military Operations (DGsMO) understanding of 2021 to maintain peace along the LoC," he said.

Ceasefire Holding Since 2021 Understanding

This incident marks a rare breach of the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, reaffirmed on February 25, 2021, when both sides agreed to strictly observe all agreements and understandings along the LoC and other sectors.

The Krishna Ghati sector has historically been sensitive due to its strategic location and frequent hostilities, but such ceasefire violations have been infrequent in recent years under the 2021 agreement.

Situation Remains Tense but Stable

The latest provocation has raised concerns about a potential escalation, but the Indian Army’s restrained and strategic response indicates a focus on avoiding further confrontation while maintaining territorial integrity.

The situation along the LoC remains tense but stable, with vigilant monitoring by Indian forces.
