Diplomatic Expulsions Mark Latest Flashpoint in India-Pakistan Relations
Islamabad, May 13 — Pakistan on Tuesday declared a staff member of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad as persona non grata and directed the official to leave the country within 24 hours, citing engagement in activities deemed incompatible with diplomatic norms.According to a statement released by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indian Charge d’Affaires was summoned and formally issued a démarche to communicate the decision.
“The Government of Pakistan has declared a staff member of the Indian High Commission, Islamabad, as persona non grata for engaging in activities incompatible with his privileged status,” the statement read.
India Responds with Reciprocal Action
In a corresponding move, India expelled a Pakistani diplomat stationed at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, accusing the official of espionage-related activities.India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated that the expelled Pakistani staffer had been involved in actions inconsistent with his official role and was similarly given 24 hours to leave the country.
Rising Diplomatic and Military Strain
