Amritsar/Jammu, Feb 26: A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel early Wednesday morning along the International Border (IB) in Pathankot, Punjab, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred at the Border Outpost (BOP) Tashpatan, where BSF troops detected suspicious movement. Despite being repeatedly challenged, the intruder continued to move forward after crossing into Indian territory, prompting the personnel to open fire, officials stated.
Authorities are working to establish the identity of the deceased. Meanwhile, a BSF spokesperson from the Jammu frontier has announced that a formal protest will be lodged with Pakistan Rangers regarding the breach.
The BSF is responsible for securing the India-Pakistan border, including the 553-km-long stretch in Punjab. Incidents of infiltration attempts have been a persistent security concern along this sensitive border region.
