Islamabad, March 4 – A team of doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) visited Adiala Jail to conduct a medical check-up of former Prime Minister Imran Khan following concerns raised about his health, according to reports.
Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023, has been the subject of health-related concerns voiced by his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The examination was carried out on Monday by a four-member medical team led by Dr. Altaf Hussain, an ENT specialist. The team also included Dr. Umar Farooq from the hospital’s Dental Department, Dr. Muhammad Ali Arif from General Medicine, and Dr. Tashfeen Imtiaz from General Surgery. The medical check-up reportedly lasted for 30 minutes.
The assessment comes after PTI leaders, including party information secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram, alleged that the government had placed Imran Khan in solitary confinement. Concerns were also raised about restrictions on his family’s visits, with claims that even his sisters and personal physician were denied access to him.
While the findings of the medical examination have not yet been publicly disclosed, speculation is growing over Khan’s possible transfer to another location. Islamabad-based sources have hinted at a potential relocation, though no official confirmation has been provided.
Last month, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stated that Khan would "soon be shifted elsewhere," but no concrete details regarding such a move have emerged.
The situation continues to develop, with PTI members pressing for transparency regarding Khan’s medical condition and his treatment in custody.
