Palghar, February 26: In a significant drug bust, police in Maharashtra’s Palghar district seized mephedrone (MD) worth ₹25 lakh and arrested a 26-year-old suspect on Wednesday.
According to officials, a police team led by Officer Avinash Mandle was patrolling areas under the Kasa police station jurisdiction when they noticed a man carrying a bag suspiciously near a hotel in Charoti. Acting on their instincts, the officers stopped him for questioning and conducted a search.
During the inspection, the team found a packet wrapped in white paper concealed within the suspect's clothing. Sensing potential drug possession, the officers immediately contacted the Local Crime Branch, Palghar, to conduct a substance test. A trained officer used a drug testing kit to analyze the contents, which tested positive for mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant.
Authorities recovered approximately 125 grams of the illegal substance, with an estimated street value of ₹25 lakh. The suspect, identified as Raj Baban Sheal, a resident of Bandra, Mumbai, was reportedly traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai and had stopped at Charoti to switch vehicles.
Following the discovery, Sheal was taken into custody and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigations are underway to determine the source and intended destination of the contraband.
