New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI): On the final day of campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections, BJP's New Delhi candidate Parvesh Verma made a significant announcement, pledging to rename Talkatora Stadium after Maharishi Valmiki if his party comes to power.
Addressing a press conference, Verma stated that the proposal would be tabled at the first New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) meeting after the February 8 elections. Once approved, the stadium’s new name would officially take effect.
"In the first NDMC council meeting after February 8, we will rename the Talkatora Stadium as Bhagwan Maharishi Valmiki Stadium," Verma declared.
Emphasizing the need to honor revered figures, he further stated that airports, stadiums, and other prominent buildings should be named after spiritual leaders or martyrs who have sacrificed for the nation.
The New Delhi Assembly constituency is witnessing an intense electoral battle, with AAP chief and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal contesting for re-election. The Congress has fielded Sandeep Dikshit, son of late CM Sheila Dikshit, making it a three-way contest.
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 8, with results expected to shape the political landscape of the capital.
