Passenger Arrested with Narcotics Worth Rs 8 Crore at Amritsar Airport

Amritsar, March 1: In a significant narcotics seizure at Amritsar Airport, customs officials arrested a passenger who was found carrying drugs valued at approximately Rs 8 crore.

The accused, identified as Mandeep Singh, arrived at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar from Malaysia on February 26. Upon routine baggage inspection, customs officials discovered 8.17 kilograms of a substance suspected to be ganja. The narcotics confiscated have an estimated market value of Rs 8.17 crore, making it one of the major seizures at the airport recently.

Following the recovery, Singh has been booked under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Investigations into the source and intended destination of the narcotics are underway.

Gold Worth Rs 35.60 Lakh Seized in Separate Incident​

In another unrelated case at the same airport, customs authorities seized 400 grams of gold from a passenger arriving from Singapore. The seized items—a gold chain and a bangle—carry an approximate market valuation of Rs 35.60 lakh.

Customs officials have intensified security and screening measures at Amritsar airport following these incidents.
