Pilibhit Cleric Faces Action for Violating Loudspeaker Restrictions During 'Namaaz'

Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, March 2 – A case has been registered against a mosque cleric in the Jahanabad area of Pilibhit after allegations that he violated restrictions on loudspeaker usage during religious prayers. The incident occurred on Sunday, as reported by the local police.

The SHO of Jahanabad Police Station, Manoj Kumar Mishra, confirmed that the FIR was lodged by Sub-Inspector Varun. The complaint asserts that on the afternoon of March 1, a loudspeaker was being used at an excessive volume during the 'namaaz' at a mosque located in Kazitola.

Authorities had previously notified Maulvi Ashfaq about the restrictions on loudspeakers on February 25. As per the regulations, loudspeakers and public address systems are prohibited unless prior permission is granted by the relevant authorities.

However, the cleric continued to use a loudspeaker during 'namaaz' and 'azaan' on the evening of February 28, despite being made aware of the orders. When questioned by the police, Maulvi Ashfaq could not provide any official permission for the use of the loudspeaker.

As a result, a case has been filed under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 223 (disobedience to orders duly promulgated by public servant), 270 (public nuisance), and 293 (continuance of a nuisance after an injunction to discontinue).

The police further explained that the loud sound of the loudspeaker was causing disturbances, particularly as the ongoing Board examinations for Class 10th and 12th students were in progress. The noise was affecting students who were sitting for exams as well as individuals who were seriously ill.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are ensuring that the situation does not escalate further during this critical period.
