February 14, New Delhi — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a day-long visit to Assam on Saturday. Prime Minister Modi arrived at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh.

This is the first facility of its kind in the entire Northeast region. The Emergency Landing Facility has converted a specific section of a national highway into an alternative runway during emergencies, capable of handling emergency landing and take-off operations for fighter aircraft, heavy transport planes, and helicopters.

Developed in coordination with the Indian Air Force, the facility significantly enhances operational flexibility and rapid air mobility in a strategically important region.

The Governor and Chief Minister of Assam, along with senior civil and military officials, were also present at the event. Prime Minister Modi was briefed by the dignitaries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed a demonstration featuring Rafale and Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter jets, C-130 Super Hercules transport aircraft, and advanced light helicopters, showcasing India's air power and rapid deployment capabilities.

This event holds significant importance for national security and regional resilience.

Prime Minister Modi also visited the exhibition, highlighting the strategic importance of the project.

Beyond defense preparedness, the Emergency Landing Facility will play a crucial role in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations, enabling swift access to remote and flood-prone areas in the Northeast.
