PM Modi condoles death of Gujarati poet Anil Joshi

Ahmedabad, February 26: Renowned Gujarati poet Anil Joshi has passed away at the age of 84. His son, Sanket Joshi, shared the news in a Facebook post, stating that the celebrated poet breathed his last at his residence in Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over Joshi’s demise, acknowledging his significant contributions to modern Gujarati literature. Taking to social media platform X, Modi said, “Saddened by the demise of Anil Joshi, a renowned poet of Gujarati literature. His contribution to modern Gujarati literature will always be remembered. Prayers for the peace of the departed soul and condolences to the bereaved family and literature-lovers in this sad hour.”


Just days before his passing, Joshi had informed his followers on February 22 through a Facebook post that he had returned home after spending nearly two weeks in the ICU of a hospital.

Joshi was widely regarded for his profound literary works that enriched Gujarati poetry and modern literature, leaving an enduring legacy in the literary world.
