PM Modi Hails 1998 Pokhran Tests on National Technology Day, Highlights India’s Tech Leadership

New Delhi, May 11 – On National Technology Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests on Sunday, praising the milestone as a defining moment in India's technological and strategic evolution.

In a message shared on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister said, “Best wishes on National Technology Day! This is a day to express pride and gratitude to our scientists and remember the 1998 Pokhran tests. They were a landmark event in our nation's growth trajectory, especially in our quest towards self-reliance.”

A Historic Day for Indian Science and Security

National Technology Day is observed every year on May 11 to mark two significant events from 1998: the successful Operation Shakti nuclear tests conducted at Pokhran, and the maiden flight of the Hansa-3, India’s indigenously developed aircraft.

These achievements led Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to declare May 11 National Technology Day in honor of Indian scientific excellence and innovation.

India’s Expanding Tech Prowess

Highlighting India’s growing global influence, Modi added, “Powered by our people, India is emerging as a global leader in different aspects of technology, be it space, AI, digital innovation, green technology, and more.”

He emphasized the government’s continued commitment to promoting science, research, and innovation as key drivers of development, adding, “May technology uplift humanity, secure our nation, and drive futuristic growth.”

As India advances in space exploration, artificial intelligence, and green tech sectors, National Technology Day serves as a reminder of the nation’s enduring focus on self-reliance and global technological leadership.
