Infrastructure Boost with Four New Railway Projects Across Three States
New Delhi, April 5 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval of four major multi-tracking railway projects worth approximately ₹18,658 crore. Highlighting the significance of the move, he stated that the new projects will improve India’s connectivity infrastructure, reduce logistics costs, and enhance the efficiency of supply chains.These projects, spearheaded by the Ministry of Railways, will span 1,247 kilometers and benefit 15 districts across Maharashtra, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. The government said these efforts are aimed at not only boosting passenger convenience but also strengthening the backbone of the country’s transport and logistics network.
Vibrant Villages Programme-II to Enhance Border Infrastructure
In another key announcement, PM Modi lauded the Cabinet’s approval of the Vibrant Villages Programme-II, calling it "exceptional news" for improving the quality of life in India’s border regions.“With this approval, we are also expanding the scope of the villages covered compared to Vibrant Villages Programme-I,” Modi said.
The programme’s core objective is to uplift the standard of living and create sustainable livelihood opportunities in strategic border villages. It also aims to curb trans-border crimes, integrate border populations with the national mainstream, and engage them as active participants in internal security by acting as “eyes and ears” for the border guarding forces.
With a substantial outlay of ₹6,839 crore, the second phase of the programme will be implemented through 2028-29 in selected villages across 17 states and union territories including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Both announcements reflect the government's strategic focus on enhancing infrastructure and national security through inclusive development in remote and border areas.
