New Delhi, May 12 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 PM tonight, marking his first public statement since the launch of Operation Sindoor, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The televised address follows a critical diplomatic breakthrough, as India and Pakistan agreed to halt all military actions across land, air, and sea with immediate effect. This ceasefire agreement comes after a tense four-day escalation of cross-border hostilities that had raised fears of a full-scale conflict.
Operation Sindoor: India’s Retaliatory Strike
Operation Sindoor was launched by India in the early hours of May 7, in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead, including civilians and a Nepalese national.In response, Indian armed forces targeted nine terror camps located across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation reportedly resulted in the death of over 100 terrorists, according to military sources.
Pakistan's Counteroffensive and India’s Response
Following India's operation, Pakistan launched multiple attacks on Indian military installations on May 8, 9, and 10. In retaliation, Indian forces mounted a fierce counter-attack, striking several key Pakistani military facilities.Among the targeted sites were Rafiqui, Murid, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian military installations. In addition, radar facilities at Pasrur and the Sialkot aviation base were hit with precision-guided munitions, resulting in significant infrastructure damage.
Official Confirmation of Casualties and Objectives
Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai confirmed that 35 to 40 Pakistani military personnel were killed during the engagements. He also stated that India successfully achieved its military objectives in the operation.Ghai is expected to hold a second round of communication with his Pakistani counterpart later this evening, following the initial military-level contact made on Saturday.
