Jamnagar, Gujarat, March 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday morning visited Vantara, an animal rescue, conservation, and rehabilitation centre situated in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The expansive centre, spread across 3,000 acres, is located within the Reliance Jamnagar refinery complex.
Vantara specializes in the welfare of captive elephants and other wildlife, providing sanctuary, rehabilitation, and extensive medical care to animals rescued from abusive and exploitative environments. Home to more than 2,000 animals representing 43 diverse species, the centre employs advanced veterinary facilities and naturalistic enclosures designed to mimic original wildlife habitats.
With a dedicated workforce of over 2,100 trained personnel, Vantara actively engages in empowering local communities by offering sustainable livelihood opportunities and specialized training in humane animal-care practices.
Arriving in Gujarat on Saturday evening, PM Modi's itinerary includes significant engagements, notably chairing the meeting of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL). This important session will be hosted at Sasan, the headquarters of the renowned Gir Wildlife Sanctuary.
On Monday morning, PM Modi will embark on a jungle safari at Gir Wildlife Sanctuary. After the safari, he will return to 'Sinh Sadan' to preside over the NBWL meeting as its ex-officio chairman. The NBWL comprises 47 members, including the Chief of Army Staff, representatives from various states, NGO officials, chief wildlife wardens, and state secretaries.
Concluding the NBWL meeting, PM Modi is scheduled to interact with female forest staff members at Sasan.
