Warns that 44 Crore Indians Could Become Obese by 2050​

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grave concerns over the growing issue of obesity in India, citing a recent report that predicts an alarming scenario: by 2050, approximately 44 crore Indians could be obese. Terming the figure "shocking and dangerous," Modi emphasized the urgent need for preventive measures to address this looming health crisis.

Speaking at a public rally in Silvassa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Modi urged citizens to reduce edible oil consumption by at least 10 per cent. He cautioned that if timely interventions are not undertaken, obesity-related health complications would significantly burden India's healthcare system.

Development Projects Worth Over Rs 2,500 Crore Launched​

During his visit to the coastal Union territory, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various development projects valued at over Rs 2,500 crore. Highlighting the region's potential, Modi drew parallels between Singapore's transformative journey from a humble fishing island to a global economic powerhouse, and the opportunities awaiting Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu.

"Singapore was once an island inhabited by a few fishermen but became a developed country in a short time due to the hard work of its citizens. Likewise, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu can also achieve rapid transformation," Modi asserted, motivating residents to actively participate in the region's development.

Modi Promises Support for Regional Growth​

"The people of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu possess the power to usher in meaningful change. I assure you that I will stand alongside you in this endeavor," Modi declared enthusiastically. He further emphasized the emotional and historical significance of the Union territory, calling it not just a territory but "our pride and legacy."

Modi also praised the progress of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, acknowledging its emergence as a prominent educational hub.

Government Plans 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras Nationwide​

Highlighting healthcare initiatives, PM Modi announced the Centre’s plan to establish 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across India. These centers aim to ensure citizens have access to affordable and quality generic medicines, significantly reducing healthcare expenses and benefiting millions nationwide.

Modi stressed that tackling obesity and improving public health is a collective responsibility and appealed for nationwide awareness and active participation in adopting healthier lifestyles.
