
Saharanpur (UP), February 11 A man wanted in connection with cow slaughter cases was arrested after a gunfight here, an officer said on Wednesday.
Qutub Sher Station House Officer H N Singh told PTI that Kausar was arrested late on the night of February 10-11 near Bahupur Pulia on Ambala Road during a vehicle check.
According to the police, the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle, was signaled to stop, but allegedly opened fire at the police team with the intention of killing them.
The police retaliated and shot the rider in the leg.
A country-made pistol, two empty cartridges, two live .315-bore cartridges, and Rs 1,850 in cash were recovered from his possession. The motorcycle he was riding was also seized.
The injured Kausar was admitted to a hospital for treatment, Singh said.
He said that Kausar had several cases against him, including a case under the Cow Slaughter Act at the Qutub Sher Police Station and a case under the NDPS Act.
