Medininagar, February 15 A 22-year-old woman was allegedly murdered due to dowry demands in the Palamu district of Jharkhand, and her body was set on fire, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place in the Dalla village, within the jurisdiction of the Pandu police station, they said.

The deceased woman was from Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh and got married 11 months ago, they said.

Police said they initiated an investigation after receiving a complaint from the deceased woman's father.

In his complaint, the father alleged that his daughter was frequently beaten and harassed over dowry demands since the wedding.

"On February 13, she was murdered, and her body was set on fire with the intention of concealing evidence," he alleged in the complaint.

SDPO (Vishrampur) Alok Kumar Tutti said that the remains of the victim, including bones and other remains, were recovered from a forest near the village on Saturday.

"A search is underway for the accused. So far, no one has been arrested. All members of the in-laws' family are currently at large," he said.

The officer-in-charge of the Pandu police station, Vagesh Kumar Ray, said that a forensic team has collected the remains of the victim.
