Police obtains custody of Palakkad double murder accused; takes him to incident site

Palakkad (Kerala), Feb 4 (PTI) – Police have secured the custody of 58-year-old Chenthamara, the prime suspect in the brutal double murder of an elderly woman and her son in Palakkad last month. Following his arrest, the police took Chenthamara to the crime scene in Pothundi on Tuesday to reconstruct the events of the horrific incident.

A large police presence was deployed to ensure the safety of the accused, as hundreds of angry locals gathered outside the Nenmara police station, demanding his immediate handover. The tense situation required police to use force to disperse the crowd.

During the site visit, Chenthamara led officers to the spot where 72-year-old Lakshmi and her 53-year-old son Sudhakaran were allegedly hacked to death in broad daylight on January 27. Chenthamara also demonstrated the escape route he took, fleeing into the nearby forest after the killings.

The suspect was apprehended after an extensive, 24-hour manhunt. He faces charges under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code). Police sources revealed that the double murder stemmed from a long-standing personal feud between the families of the victims and the accused.

In a chilling twist, Chenthamara is also implicated in the 2019 killing of Sudhakaran's wife. He was out on bail in that case when he allegedly committed the double murder.

The investigation continues as authorities seek to unravel the full extent of the enmity that led to these tragic events.
