Police shoot at, nab suspect in petrol bomb attack on police station in TN

Ranipet (Tamil Nadu), Feb 3 (PTI) – Tamil Nadu police apprehended a suspect involved in the recent petrol bomb attack on the SIPCOT police station in Ranipet, after he allegedly tried to escape and attacked an officer with a knife.

The suspect, identified as Hari, was captured in Chennai by a special police team investigating the Sunday night incident. While being escorted back, Hari reportedly assaulted Sub-Inspector Mutheeswaran with a knife in an attempt to flee. Acting swiftly, an alert Inspector from the special team opened fire, injuring Hari below the knee and preventing his escape.

Both the suspect and the injured SI were immediately taken to the Walajapet Government Hospital for treatment.

The attack on the SIPCOT police station occurred around midnight on Sunday, when two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle hurled a petrol bomb at the premises before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, there were no injuries or property damage reported.

Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack and are on the lookout for the second suspect.
