Hyderabad, Feb 26: The stage is set for the highly anticipated election to three constituencies of the Telangana Legislative Council, with polling scheduled for Thursday, February 29. The election will be conducted in a preferential voting mode from 8 AM to 4 PM.

The three constituencies in focus are the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates' and Teachers' constituencies, along with the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers' constituency. According to official sources, 56 candidates are contesting for the lone Graduates' constituency, while 15 and 19 candidates are in the fray for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers' constituencies, respectively.

BJP, Congress in the Fray; BRS Opts Out

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded candidates for all three seats, while the ruling Congress is contesting only the Graduates' constituency. Meanwhile, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has decided to stay away from the election.

Union Coal Minister and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy, along with Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar, led the party's aggressive campaign across the constituencies. On the Congress front, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and State Congress President B Mahesh Kumar Goud campaigned in support of their party’s candidate.

In a last-minute push, Goud held a video conference with party mandal unit presidents on Wednesday, strategizing for the polling day.

Key Issues and Expectations

The BJP has emphasized concerns related to teachers and unemployed youth, promising that its elected candidates will advocate for the rights of graduates, educators, and the wider educated community.

The vote counting is scheduled for March 3, with results expected to indicate the political climate ahead of upcoming elections in the state.
