Porter arrested for raping woman on train at Mumbai's Bandra Terminus

Mumbai, February 2 (PTI) – A porter has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman aboard a long-distance train stationed at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official confirmed on Sunday.

According to the police, the incident took place on Saturday night when the woman, described as "middle-aged," arrived at Bandra Terminus with her son on an outstation train. After disembarking, she entered another train that had pulled in on the opposite platform, which was unoccupied at the time.

A porter, who was present on the empty train, allegedly sexually assaulted the woman before fleeing the scene. The survivor later approached the Bandra GRP police station and filed a complaint.

Acting swiftly, railway police analyzed surveillance camera footage from the station to track down and apprehend the accused. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances under which the woman entered the empty train.

The suspect has been booked for rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with further details of the crime being withheld due to the sensitive nature of the case.

This incident raises concerns over passenger safety at railway stations, especially during late hours. Investigations are ongoing.
