Gurugram, January 22, 2025—Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (NSE: POWERGRID, BSE: 532898) has announced the successful commissioning of its Sikar Transmission Project, a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing power evacuation from Rajasthan’s solar energy zones. The project, executed by POWERGRID Sikar Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary, became fully operational on December 19, 2024, and its Notification for Commercial Operation (DOCO) was received on January 22, 2025.

Strengthening India’s Green Energy Infrastructure

The Sikar Transmission Project is part of the "Transmission System Strengthening Scheme for evacuating 8.1 GW of solar power from Rajasthan under Phase-II, Part-C." Power Grid was awarded the project under Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB), a mechanism designed to attract private investment in critical energy infrastructure.

Strategic Importance & Sector Impact

  • Enhancing Renewable Energy Transmission: The project will improve grid stability and efficiency, facilitating the seamless integration of large-scale solar power generation into India's national grid.
  • Boost to Rajasthan’s Solar Potential: Rajasthan, a leading solar power hub, will benefit from enhanced evacuation capacity, reducing curtailments and optimising generation efficiency.
  • Supports India’s Renewable Energy Goals: This milestone aligns with India’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, reinforcing its position as a global leader in clean energy adoption.

Outlook & Investor Confidence

With this successful commissioning, Power Grid continues to solidify its position as India’s premier power transmission entity, executing key projects that support the nation’s energy transition. The operationalisation of the Sikar project is expected to positively impact the company's regulated returns and financial performance, making it a key development for investors tracking the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.
