Highlights Need for Citizen-Centric Administration and Eco-Friendly Initiatives

President Droupadi Murmu emphasized on Friday that the benefits of national development should extend to every segment of society, especially focusing on the disadvantaged and marginalized groups.

Speaking at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, during an interaction with state civil services officers, President Murmu stressed the importance of sustainability and inclusivity as guiding principles in governance. These officers are currently participating in the 126th induction training programme at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie.

Promote Inclusive and Responsive Governance

President Murmu encouraged officers newly inducted into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) to adopt a national perspective in implementing government policies. She highlighted responsiveness and sensitivity as critical aspects of effective governance, asserting, "The benefits of development should reach all sections of society, especially the disadvantaged and marginalised."

Murmu urged these civil servants to serve as role models by demonstrating excellence, integrity, and dedication in their administrative roles. Their leadership, she suggested, could inspire their peers and subordinates to achieve greater effectiveness and commitment in public service.

Citizen Welfare Should Be Priority

The President emphasized that a citizen-centric approach, prioritizing welfare, especially of the poor and deprived, should guide the implementation of policies. Addressing the officers, Murmu said, "The essence of governance lies in responsiveness and sensitivity towards the needs of the people."

She further advised the officers to ensure that their administrative decisions effectively address public concerns and contribute positively to national development.

Call for Environmental Responsibility and Sustainability

Murmu also spoke about the necessity of integrating environmental sustainability into governance. Highlighting the global challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, she stressed that promoting eco-friendly initiatives should be central to policy-making processes.

President Murmu concluded by reiterating that the success of governance is determined by its ability to uplift every citizen, especially those who have been historically marginalized or disadvantaged, and by its responsiveness to environmental challenges facing the country.
