New Delhi, May 16—President Droupadi Murmu on Friday extended warm greetings to the people of Sikkim on the occasion of their Statehood Day, praising the state for its leadership in sustainable development and harmonious relationship with nature.
In a message shared on the social media platform X, the President said, "Warm greetings to the people of Sikkim on Statehood Day. Sikkim is widely admired for its boundless natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and warmth of its people. As one of India’s most environmentally conscious states, Sikkim has set remarkable examples of sustainable development, showcasing harmonious coexistence with nature."
She further wished the citizens of Sikkim continued prosperity and well-being, stating, "I extend my best wishes to all residents of Sikkim for a future full of prosperity and well-being."
Sikkim commemorates its Statehood Day on May 16 each year, marking its accession as the 22nd state of the Indian Union in 1975. Known for its ecological initiatives, the state has earned national recognition for its organic farming, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation efforts.
