Chhatarpur (MP), Feb 26 – President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the crucial role of saints in ensuring a respectable position for women in society and hailed India’s transition from "women-development to women-led development." Speaking at a mass wedding ceremony at Bageshwar Dham in Garha village, Chhatarpur district, she underscored the importance of empowering women through education, health, and self-reliance.

Addressing the gathering where 251 couples tied the knot, President Murmu lauded the contribution of saints in eradicating social evils and promoting gender equality. She noted that spiritual leaders have historically guided society by challenging caste- and gender-based discrimination.

"In our tradition, saints like Guru Nanak, Sant Ravidas, Sant Kabir Das, Meera Bai, and Sant Tukaram have shown people the right path and spoken out against social evils," she said. Murmu also stressed that contemporary spiritual leaders could play a key role in shaping a self-reliant, harmonious, and environment-friendly India.

The President encouraged women to focus on education and self-reliance, saying, "Our small efforts can empower women. When women succeed, society and the nation progress." She urged people to support women’s education, health, and safety, reiterating the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047.

She praised the Bageshwar Dham for organizing the mass wedding and acknowledged efforts to provide the brides with sewing machines and other essentials to foster self-reliance.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who was also present at the event, announced financial assistance ₹51,000 for each couple under state government schemes. Governor Mangubhai Patel and Bageshwar Peeth’s seer, Dhirendra Shastri, also addressed the function.
