New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) – Philemon Yang, the President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), is set to begin a four-day official visit to India starting Tuesday. Yang, who assumed the prestigious role in September 2023, previously served as the Prime Minister of Cameroon.

The visit comes at the invitation of India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, according to an official statement. During his stay, the PGA is expected to engage in discussions with Jaishankar on a wide array of multilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

Yang, who introduced the vision document A Pact for the Future under his presidency, has advocated for multilateral solutions to tackle global challenges. The document aims to foster cooperation for a better and sustainable future through collective international action.

In addition to meetings in New Delhi, Yang is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Indian President Droupadi Murmu. His itinerary also includes visits to key institutions in Bengaluru, including Infosys and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). These visits will provide Yang an opportunity to engage with experts on India's innovations in areas such as sustainability, digital public infrastructure, and more, as per the official readout.

This high-level visit underscores the ongoing commitment to strengthening India’s role within the United Nations and advancing collaborative global efforts in tackling pressing challenges.

The visit will conclude on February 7.
