Faridabad, February 9 Terror accused Abdul Rehman, who was being held in Neemla Jail, was murdered following a fight inside the prison premises, police said on Monday.
According to police, the murder is allegedly the work of another prisoner, Arun Chaudhary, who was recently transferred to the facility from Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when a quarrel broke out between the two inmates.
During the altercation, Chaudhary, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, stabbed Rahman with a sharp-edged weapon. Rehman died on the spot inside the jail premises.
A senior police officer said that an investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the clash between the two prisoners.
Rehman, a resident of Milkipur in Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh, had been in custody since June 2025 following his arrest in March of that year. He was apprehended from the Pali village near Faridabad by a joint team of the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad and a Special Task Force (STF) of the Haryana Police. An FIR against Rehman was filed at the Dabua Police Station in Faridabad.
At the time of his arrest, officials had stated that Rehman was involved in a conspiracy to carry out an explosion in Ayodhya. He was suspected of having links with the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI, an STF official had said on the condition of anonymity.
Two mobile phones were seized from Rehman's possession. In the phones, some incriminating videos were also found, sources had said, adding that they also found that he had shared several videos with a terror outfit.
The Haryana STF had received information that a sleeper cell could be supporting Rehman as they provided him with hand grenades, sources had said.
Rehman's parents rejected the allegations, stating that he was not involved in any terror activities.
