Jamshedpur, May 12 – The East Singhbhum district administration in Jharkhand has initiated an investigation into potential irregularities under the Maiyan Samman Yojana, following the discovery of multiple beneficiaries receiving funds through the same bank accounts.
Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal raised serious concerns on Monday and directed all Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Circle Inspectors (CIs) to verify the authenticity of beneficiaries within their jurisdictions. The verification reports must be submitted to district headquarters within three working days.
Over 2,900 Suspect Bank Accounts Identified
A preliminary probe revealed that two or more beneficiaries had availed of scheme benefits using the same bank accounts in at least 2,912 instances across the district.The most affected areas include:
- Potka: 573 cases
- Jamshedpur Circle: 390
- Golmuri-cum-Jugsalai: 388
- Mango Circle: 300
- Ghatsila: 271
- Bodam: 191
- Chakulia Block: 164
- Gurabandha: 122
- Patamda: 113
- Dumaria: 111
- Baharagora: 99
- Musabani: 97
- Dhalbhumgarh: 81
- Chakulia Circle: 10
Strict Action Against Fraudulent Beneficiaries and Officials
Mittal emphasized that the administration would not tolerate any fraudulent activity under the scheme. “The names of ineligible beneficiaries will be removed immediately, and the funds disbursed will be recovered,” she stated.Additionally, any official or staff member found complicit in these irregularities will face departmental action.
Public Urged to Report Irregularities
The district administration reiterated that the Maiyan Samman Yojana is designed to support financially vulnerable and eligible women. Authorities have urged citizens and beneficiaries to ensure accurate information is provided.The public is also encouraged to report any irregularities they observe. “If anyone is aware of fraudulent claims, they should come forward. The administration will act swiftly,” the statement concluded.
This development comes amid increasing scrutiny of welfare schemes to ensure transparency and proper distribution of benefits.
